Convert HBL Statements to Excel

Convert your HBL statement to Excel or CSV without uploading it. This HBL statement converter reads the PDF in your browser, rebuilds the transaction table and checks every running balance so you can trust the numbers.

No statement handy?

Your statement never leaves this device. It is read in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How HBL statement to Excel conversion works

HBL account statements downloaded from internet banking or the mobile app are text-based PDFs, which is what makes them convertible without OCR. The table normally runs Date, Description or narration, a cheque or reference number, Debit, Credit and a running Balance, and the parser finds each of those columns from the header row rather than from fixed positions, so a slightly different export from a different HBL channel still lines up.

Pakistani statements print dates day-first, so a value such as 03/04/2025 is read as 3 April, not 4 March. The parser only overrides that default when the statement itself proves otherwise — for example a date like 25/04/2025, where 25 can only be a day. Amounts are read with thousands separators and two decimals, and a value printed with a trailing DR or CR marker is assigned to the right side.

The usual trouble spots are long narrations that wrap onto a second line and the header block that repeats at the top of every page. Wrapped narrations are merged back into the transaction above them, and repeated headers and page footers are dropped instead of appearing as bogus rows. If your HBL statement shows an opening balance line, it is used to check the very first transaction as well.

Layouts differ between account types and change when the bank updates its statement template, so do not treat this profile as a guarantee. The green "balance reconciles" badge is the real test: it re-adds every credit and subtracts every debit and confirms each running balance. If a row is flagged, correct it in the table before you download.

HBL statement layout the parser expects

  • Bank: Habib Bank Limited, Pakistan
  • Date format: DD/MM/YYYY or DD-MMM-YYYY
  • Columns detected: date, description, reference, debit, credit, balance
  • Typical currency: PKR
  • Checked against: the printed running balance, row by row

How to use it

  1. Drop one or more PDF statements onto the box, or choose “Try a sample statement” to watch it work on a fictional one first.
  2. Wait a moment while each page is read. A progress bar shows how far along it is.
  3. Check the summary bar. A green “balance reconciles” badge means every running balance agrees with the transactions; a red count means that many rows need a look.
  4. Fix any highlighted row directly in the table — the check recalculates as you edit. Delete junk rows or flip debit and credit if a bank uses the opposite convention.
  5. Download the result as an Excel .xlsx file with a formatted header row, or as a CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Is my HBL statement uploaded when I convert it?

No. The HBL PDF is read inside your browser and never sent to a server. Only an anonymous count, such as the number of rows converted, is recorded.

Does this work on every HBL statement?

It works on text-based HBL PDFs that contain a transaction table. Scanned copies have no text to read, and a redesigned statement can occasionally need a correction, which is why the tool shows a balance check and lets you edit any row.

What does “balance reconciles” mean, and what if it says rows need review?

For every row with a printed balance, the tool checks that the previous balance plus credits minus debits equals it. If every row agrees, the extraction is internally consistent. If some do not, those rows are highlighted in red — usually a misplaced digit, a merged column or a wrapped line — and you can edit them in the table; the check recalculates as you type.

Can I convert a password-protected statement?

Yes. When a PDF is encrypted the tool asks for its password and unlocks it locally. Many banks protect statements with something like your date of birth or the last digits of your account number. The password is used only to open the file in your browser and is not stored or sent anywhere.

Statement layouts are set by the bank and change without notice. Always confirm the “balance reconciles” badge and review flagged rows before relying on the converted figures.
