Word limits are everywhere: essays, meta descriptions, tweets, job applications, and academic abstracts. This counter updates live as you type and goes beyond a raw total — it reports characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, average sentence length, and estimated reading and speaking time.
At 225 words per minute, a common average for adults reading online prose. Technical material reads slower, around 150 words per minute, and speaking aloud is slower still at roughly 130.
Both figures are shown. Twitter and most SMS limits count spaces; some database fields and legacy systems do not, so having both saves guesswork.
By full stops, question marks, and exclamation marks. Abbreviations such as "Dr." and "e.g." can inflate the count slightly, which is a limitation of any rule-based detector.
It depends on intent, not on a magic number. Pages that answer a narrow question well can rank at 600 words; comprehensive guides for competitive terms often run past 2,000. Cover the topic completely and stop.
