Discount & Sale Price Calculator

Shops present discounts in whatever way looks largest, so "30% off then an extra 20%" is not 50% off — it is 44%. This calculator gives the real sale price, the cash saved, and handles a second stacked discount so you can compare offers honestly.

How to use it

  1. Enter the original list price.
  2. Enter the first discount percentage.
  3. Add a second discount if the offer stacks one on top of the other.
  4. Compare the final price and the true combined discount percentage.

Frequently asked questions

Why is 30% plus 20% not 50% off?

The second discount applies to the already-reduced price, not the original. 30% then 20% leaves 0.7 × 0.8 = 0.56 of the price, which is a 44% discount.

How do I work out the discount percentage from two prices?

Subtract the sale price from the original, divide by the original, and multiply by 100. The percentage calculator does this in one step.

Does this include sales tax?

No. Enter the pre-tax price for a pre-tax result, or the tax-inclusive price to get a tax-inclusive result. Use the sales tax calculator to add tax afterwards.

How can I sanity-check a "half price" claim?

Halve the original price in your head. If the advertised price is meaningfully above that, the discount is being applied to an inflated reference price.
